How to Weld Super Duplex Stainless Steel
Argon Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG welding):
Argon arc welding is a commonly used welding method, which is suitable for welding duplex stainless steel. Under argon protection, an arc generated by a tungsten electrode is used to heat the weld while the filler metal (welding wire) is used to join the workpieces. Argon arc welding provides high welding quality and good weld appearance, but the speed is slow, which is suitable for situations with high requirements on welding quality.
TIG Welding (GTAW-P welding):
Argon arc welding is a modified method of argon arc welding, which creates a weld by applying pressure around the welding area. This method can increase the welding speed and welding depth, and improve the shape and quality of the weld.
Argon Arc Welding Automation Method:
For large-scale production and automated welding requirements, automated methods of argon arc welding can be used, such as argon arc welding robots or automated welding equipment. This approach increases productivity and consistency and reduces the need for manual handling.
Arc Welding (SMAW/MMA welding):
Arc welding is a common manual welding method suitable for welding super duplex stainless steel. The weld is heated by an electric arc while a welding rod (welding electrode) is used to fill the metal and join the workpieces. Arc welding has high adaptability and a wide range of applications, but the welding speed is relatively slow.
Gas-shielded Welding (GMAW/MIG welding):
Gas-shielded welding is a commonly used semi-automatic or automatic welding method, which is suitable for welding super duplex stainless steel. During the welding process, the weld and arc are protected by sparging an inert gas such as argon, while the filler metal is supplied by the welding wire. Gas-shielded welding has high efficiency and high welding speed, which is suitable for mass production and automatic welding.
2205 Duplex Stainless Steel VS 316
2205 duplex stainless steel and 316 stainless steel are two common stainless steel materials, both of which are relatively high-quality categories, so what is the difference between them?
Chemical Composition:
2205 duplex stainless steel coil is duplex stainless steel with a chemical composition including about 22% chromium, about 5-6% nickel, about 3% molybdenum, and about 0.2% nitrogen. While 316 stainless steel is an austenitic stainless steel, the chemical composition includes about 16-18% chromium, about 10-14% nickel, and about 2-3% molybdenum. 2205 duplex stainless steel contains higher chromium, nickel, and molybdenum content, and additional nitrogen.
Structure and Properties:
2205 duplex stainless steel consists of an austenite phase and a ferrite phase, which usually exist in equal or close proportions. This duplex structure endows 2205 duplex stainless steel with excellent strength and corrosion resistance. In contrast, 316 stainless steel is a single-phase austenitic stainless steel with good corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, but relatively low strength.
Corrosion Resistance:
Due to its high chromium, nickel, and molybdenum content, 2205 duplex stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance, especially in chlorine-containing environments. It is resistant to corrosive media such as acidic and alkaline solutions, chlorides, and sulfides. 316 stainless steel also has good corrosion resistance, but compared with 2205 duplex stainless steel, it may be slightly inferior in some corrosive media.
Application Fields:
Due to its excellent strength and corrosion resistance, 2205 duplex stainless steel is often used in marine engineering, chemical industry, oil and gas industry, food processing, shipbuilding, and other fields, especially suitable for high strength and corrosion resistance requirements occasion. 316 stainless steel is widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical, food processing, medical equipment, and other fields, and is suitable for applications in general corrosive environments.
Compared with 316 stainless steel, 2205 duplex stainless steel has higher strength and corrosion resistance, and is suitable for more severe industrial environments. Of course, the price is also different, and which material to choose should be evaluated and selected according to application requirements and environmental conditions. Polished Stainless Steel Coil
A polished stainless steel coil is a stainless steel coil that has been specially treated to make its surface smooth and bright, usually with a beautiful appearance and high finish. The preparation process of polished stainless steel coil usually includes the following steps:
Surface Cleaning: First, the surface of the stainless steel coil needs to be cleaned to remove impurities and dirt. Common cleaning methods include mechanical cleaning, chemical cleaning, or electrolytic cleaning.
Polishing Treatment: Polishing is a key step. The surface of the stainless steel coil is treated by mechanical or chemical methods to obtain a smooth and bright effect. Commonly used polishing methods include mechanical polishing, electrolytic polishing, and chemical polishing.
Mechanical Polishing: Use abrasive tools (such as grinding wheels, abrasive belts, etc.) to grind and grind the surface of stainless steel coils, gradually remove the blemishes and roughness of the surface, and make it smooth and smooth. Grinding tools with different particle sizes can be selected according to the needs for multiple polishing to obtain the desired surface quality.
Electropolishing: By applying an electric current in an electrolyte, an electrochemical reaction is used to remove oxides and impurities from the surface of stainless steel. Electropolishing can provide a higher finish and surface brightness but requires specialized equipment and process control.
Chemical Polishing: The surface of stainless steel coils is treated with a chemical solution to remove oxides and contaminants to make the surface smoother. Chemical polishing can improve surface quality to a certain extent, but care needs to be taken to select appropriate chemical solutions and treatment conditions to avoid harm to the environment and human health.
Cleaning and Protection: After finishing the polishing process, the polished stainless steel coil needs to be thoroughly cleaned to remove residual polish and chemicals. Subsequently, the surface of the stainless steel coil can be protected, such as coating a protective film or using anti-oxidation treatment, to prevent re-oxidation and pollution.
The surface quality and finish of polished stainless steel coils depend on the control of the polishing method, process parameters, and operating techniques. The above video is a polished stainless steel coil, you can see that its surface is very neat and smooth.
The Development Prospect of 2205 Stainless Steel Coil
